Meet the TU/e Research Support Network! As Research Support Office, we are part of the Eindhoven University of Technology Research Support Network (RSN). The RSN is the TU/e knowledge network that supports researchers in developing and executing research projects in all project phases. Our support is organized in two tiers around the researcher. 1st tier support typically is the first point of contact for researchers and consists of departmental Project Development Officers (PDOs) and the Program Managers at the Institutes. The PDOs primarily focus on supporting research projects for their disciplines, while the Program Managers mainly focus on starting/joining strategic, thematic and inter-departmental opportunities. 2nd tier support provides expert support to both researchers directly as well as to 1st tier staff. On Thursday, we had another meeting of the Research Support Network! Some of the agenda points were Internal Audits, the RSN academy, and Circular Society research within the EWUU Alliance (alliance TU/e, WUR, UU, UMC Utrecht (EWUU)). Furthermore, we got an introduction to the department of Mechanical Engineering (who were hosting this meeting), and to research support at Technical University of Munich, one of our partners within the EuroTech Universities Alliance. This all followed by well attended and active networking drinks with colleagues from services, departments and institutes across the university.

The members of our project management office have had busy weeks: Another one of the projects we manage had a workshop. This time 30 fellows within the EuroTechPostdoc2 project met in Munich for a full week of training and networking!
Servus from Munich 👋🥨 The second cohort of our #EuroTechPostdoc2 fellows have been spending some intensive days at Technical University of Munich for another exciting boot camp. Four days of connecting with their peers from the programme, enhancing soft skills for their future professional journey, diving into the valorisation of research results, and of course discovering an outstanding university and its innovation ecosystem. Thank you to the TUM colleagues for organising and hosting, to the fellows for the positive energy and active participation, and to the invited speakers for the insightful sessions! We kicked of a new year of the RSN Academy with 2 workshops in March. Our data management colleagues Kristina Korshunova, Edyta Cios and our TU/e ethics specialist Jolanda Habraken presented an engaging workshop about research data management, ethics and open science to an enthusiastic RSN audience. And last week, our The Gate IP mgt colleagues Anna Wetzels, Suki Sandhu and Natasa Marsic told an interested audience everything about Intellectual Property and how to deal with it in the TU/e research environment. We are pleased to see that the RSN Academy is steadily growing into a recognized and popular instrument, supporting the professional growth of the TU/e Research Support Network. By exchanging knowledge and experience within the RSN we strive to create a learning organization, improving our support to TU/e researchers. More workshops are being planned. Later in March our RSO legal colleague Baukje Rongen will give a general presentation on the legal aspects of contracts. Registration is still possible for RSN members. In April there will be 2 workshops. One on the European Union and its politics, institutions and policy. The other will explain the AI act, and how it will impact research proposals. A strong beginning sets the tone for fruitful collaborations ahead. At the RSO Project Management Office, we've been actively involved in the initiation of new projects such as the EIC-funded Pathfinder project 4TunaTES. We’re thrilled to kick-off the 4TunaTES project! 🚀 Funded by the European Innovation Council Pathfinder program, 4TunaTES aims to address the urgent need for energy and heat storage, particularly considering the intermittent nature of renewable resources. This initiative is set to deliver groundbreaking, flexible thermochemical energy storage (TCES) technology that cuts development costs by 90% and can be easily adapted to different applications. Present TCES technology has to be redesigned over and over on material, component and device level for new use-cases, demanding different output temperatures, storage duration and power densities. This are costly processes and slow down the implementation of the technology. We focus on creating a TCES prototype for domestic use, developing new TCES materials with tunable phase diagrams, flexible heat-exchanging components, and innovative systems with electricity-adapted thermodynamic cycles. For this purpose, a strong consortium has been built which brings together computational material scientists (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), physical-chemists (Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, CIIAE - Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage), mechanical engineers (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, German Aerospace Center (DLR)) and a heat battery developer (Cellcius).
