Het woord “moeder” wordt afgeschaft in de wet. Wordt de tweede zondag van mei dan de “dag van de ouder uit wie het kind is geboren”? En in juni vieren we de “dag van de spermadonor”? Is er dan geen wettelijke status meer voor de “ouder die de dagelijkse zorg voor het kind garandeert”? Adoptiemoeder, moeder die haar toevlucht heeft moeten nemen tot een “draag-ouder uit wie het kind is geboren”, tweede moeder in een gezin met twee mama’s. Wordt het woordje vader nu ook afgeschaft? Dit is schijn-inclusiviteit.

What is the most effective stress management? Too often, #stress management exclusively focuses on the person experiencing stress. Therapy to learn to accept or adapt to stressful situations. Vitamins, antioxidants or a diet to reduce the physical response to stress. The mouse model in the picture (tail suspension test) has been used to prove effect of many of these treatments. But let us not forget that stress is not a natural medical condition. This mouse would not experience stress if it hadn’t been suspended by the tail. So, although it’s very interesting to find a way to minimize the physical and mental adverse effects of stress. What’s more important is to find out why so many people have physical and mental complaints that are similar to the response of this poor mouse to the tail suspension test. Happy to see that L-Arginine shows effect in the treatment of #COVID-19. In addition to L-Arginine, I would propose to treat patients with tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4). Since #SARS-CoV-2 induces #ACE2 deficiency, angiotensin II will not be converted into angiotensin 1-7. Angiotensin II activates NADPH oxidase to produce superoxide, which oxidizes BH4. Deficiency of Angiotensin 1-7 will prevent activation of eNOS to convert L-Arginine into nitric oxide, activated by BH4.

Vitamin B12 placebo effect? Some people tend to consider clinical effect of #vitaminB12 to be #placebo effect. To a point, they may be right. Although not in a way you might expect. 🤔 🏆Placebo effect is caused by expectation-induced release of #dopamine, which has a rewarding effect. - If the reward by the placebo exceeds the expectation, more dopamine is released. - If the reward equals the expectation, dopamine release remains the same. - If the reward is disappointing, dopamine release decreases or stops. ✅Dopamine needs the cofactor tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) for its production. ❌BH4 is oxidized to the ineffective BH2 by the reactive oxygen species #superoxide. No dopamine is produced. 💉Vitamin B12 scavenges superoxide, preventing it from reducing BH4 availability. 🏆More reward-giving Dopamine can be produced. One of my next articles will be on Dopamine, a very interesting neurotransmitter. I will keep you posted.

Clinical Implications of Vitamin B12 as Redox-Active Cofactor. Vitamin B12, but also other vitamins, activates processes by supplying them with energy. When vitamin B12 has lost its energy, it no longer activates the enzymes methionine synthase and methylmalonylCoA. A year ago this week, I shared my theory on how #covid19 kills. Although the hypothesis has evolved in a year, the primary mechanism is still the same. 🦠 Viral entry induces ACE2 deficiency 🦠 Causing hyperinflammation via AT1R activation caused by decreased conversion of AngII 🦠 Superoxide produced during inflammation oxidizes the cofactor for NO production (BH4) 🦠 AT1R blockers icw suppletion of BH4 may be expected to reduce inflammation and rescue eNOS-derived NO production ❤️Many thanks to those who have supported my posts this year and to the coauthors of the three articles we published.
